Many congregations around the world mark the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a “Blessing of the Animals” service, celebrating the beloved saint’s deep love and respect for all of God’s creation. This joyful gathering invites people to bring their pets—dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, and sometimes even snakes—to receive a blessing. The service is rooted in the belief that animals are part of God’s good creation and that humans are called to live in harmony with all living things. It is both a time of prayer and a celebration of the bonds we share with our animal companions.
Our brief service will be enjoyed outdoors as we celebrate the blessings we receive through the animals we have in our lives. Sometimes those blessings come in ways that words cannot express. It is great to set aside time to show our gratitude to God for them and ask for God’s blessings on them. Join us for our Blessing of the Animals worship service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 4.
All (well-behaved) animals are welcome!
